JAMES TURNER Died Here on Saturday

James F. Turner, for 62 years a resident of Winterset, died at his home on North Eighth avenue last Saturday. He was 77 years of age.

Mr. Turner was born Aug. 1, 1868, on a farm near Murray in Clarke county, the son of Peter and Susan Turner. The family came to Winterset when he was young, and here most of his life was spent.

His active years were spent as a contractor, and builder. He was also one of the pioneer automobile mechanics of this community.

He is survived by his wife, who was the former Hallie Gordon. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Berniece Horsburgh of Des Moines. His only son, Carlton, died in infancy. He also leaves a brother, Fred D. Turner, recently of St. Louis, Missouri.

Funeral services weere held Monday from Anderson's Home for Funerals, in charge of the Revs. Tom Foglesong and L. F. Davis of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

HALLIE B. TURNER Dies At 91 Years

Mrs. Hallie B. Turner of Winterset, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died here Saturday, April 6, following a long illness. She was 91 years of age.

Mrs. Turner was a granddaughter of Caleb and Ruth Clark, who were members of the first pioneer party to reach Madison county and settle it permanently. She was a daughter of John N. and Rachel Clark Gordon, and was one of a family of 10 children.

As a girl she became a member of the Christian church, and was probably the oldest living member of the Winterset church at the time of her death.

She was married in January, 1891, to James F. Turner. His death occurred in 1945.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. James G. Horsburgh of Des Moines; and a brother, Arthur (Red) Gordon of Winterset. Six brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
