Mary Abbie Bray was born in Webster City, Iowa on 22 May 1875 and grew to womanhood in the state of Iowa. On 10 May 1897 she was united in marriage to Horace Bray in Vernon Township, Hardy, IA and to this union, eight children were born. The family came to the Earl community in 1912 and have resided there since. Mrs. Bray had been in failing health for the past year and passed away at the Shell Lake Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the age of 88 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, William A. and Myron C. She is survived by six children: Marshall, Raymond and Lloyd, all of Trego; Mrs. Clarence Mortensen, Center City, Minn., Mrs. Gerhardt Skerhutt of Portland Ore., and Joseph of New Richmond, also 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Annie Potter of Hardy, Iowa.
The body lay in state at Dahl Funeral Home until Saturday noon, then removed to the Earl Church, where services were held at 2 p.m., Rev. Roy Brown officiated, burial in the family plot in Earl Cemetery. Casket bearers were Sam Gilbert, Ralph Holt, Larry Holt, Lynn Campbell, Walter McKee and Fran Lunney.
