Horace Bray Called

Horace Bray, a resident of the Earl Community since 1912, passed away at a Rice Lake Hospital, on Sunday, January 25, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 27 days. Horace Bray was born on Sept. 28, 1874, at Waterloo, Iowa, and as a small child moved with his parents to Clarion, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On May 10, 1897, he was united in marriage to Mary Abbie Vantassel at Hardy, Iowa and to this union eight children were born. The family lived near Dows, Iowa until 1912, when they came to Earl and this has been the family home since that time. He had been in failing health for many months and passed away at a Rice Lake Hospital as above stated. Mr. Bray was a loving and devoted husband and father, a helpful and sincere neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. and Mrs. Bray observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary, on May 10, 1947.

He is survived by his widow and eight children, William, Marshall, Raymond and Lloyd of Earl, Myron of Chippewa Falls, Joseph of New Richmond, Mrs. Clarence Mortensen of Lake Elmo, Minn., and Mrs. Gerhart Skerhutt of Portland, Ore, Twenty-four grandchildren, three brothers, William Bray and Clarence Bray of Earl, Grant Bray of Spooner, five sisters, Mrs. Roy Kern of Los Angeles, Calif, Mrs. Betsy Neely of San Francisco, Calif, Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Michigan City, Ind., Mrs. Cora Spears and Mrs. Marie Spencer both of Marshalltown, Iowa also survive. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan 28, from the Congregational Church with the Rev. J. P. Pennington officiating. Burial was in the Earl Cemetery. Masonic rites were conducted at both the church and cemetery by Spooner Lodge No. 260, Free and Accepted Masons of which he was a member.
