Earlham Echo - Thursday, September 7, 1944
Elmer I. A. Gordon, son of Jonathan A. and Mary Jane Gordon, died at his home southeast of Earlham, Wednesday morning, August 30, 1944, following a heart attack. He was 76 years, eight months and three days old. He was born in Winterset, Iowa, January 23, 1868 and was the oldest of six children, three sisters and two brothers, all of whom preceeded him in death with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Edna Gilleland of Winterset.
He lived in and around Winterset, until his marriage, when he and his wife moved to the neighborhood where he died. He was united in marriage to Marietta R. Martin on November 19, 1893. She preceeded him in death, April 21, 1941. To this union three daughters were born, they are Mrs. Grace Allen of Peru, Indiana; Mrs. Daisy Miller of Dallas Center, Iowa; and Mrs. Mabel Conrad, Earlham.
When still a small boy he learned to play the drums and all of his life he had a great love for music.
He united with the First Christian Church at Winterset, when a young man.
He leaves to mourn his passing one sister, three daughters, 10 grandchildren (one grandchild preceeded him in death) and three great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Four of his grandsons and one grandson-in-law are now serving in the armed forces.
Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery beside his wife.
