EDNA GILLELAND Dies at 89 Years
Mrs. Edna Gilleland, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died Monday, Oct. 10, at her home in Douglas township. She was 89 years of age.
Mrs. Gilleland was a native of Madison county, and spent her life here, the last 53 years on the same farm in Douglas township. She was the former Edna Gordon, daughter of Jonathan and Mary Jane Kellogg Gordon. She was born in Douglas township April 23, 1871.
She was married Dec. 24, 1896, to Otis Henry Gilleland. He preceded her in death many years ago.
Surviving are a son, Cresslie K. Gilleland of Winterset; five grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday from the Grace Baptist church, in charge of the pastor.

Death of O. H. GILLILAND
Otis Henry Gilliland (Gilleland), lifelong resident of Madison county died at his home in Douglas township, last Thursday, October 24th, after a several months illness. He was 64 years of age, and while his health had not been good, his condition was not regarded as serious, until a few days previous to his death.
Mr. Gilliland was a son of David W. and Nancy J. Gilliland, and was born in Douglas township, August 10, 1871. He had spent most of his life on the old home farm, which he purchased after the death of his mother. On December 24, 1896, he was married to Ednie L. Gordon, and they were the parents of one son, Cresslie K. Gilliland.
He is survived by his wife and son, one brother, and two sisters: Fred Gilliland of Glendale, California, Mrs. Ella Freck of Santa Anna, California, and Mrs. Fred Vincent of Osceola. He also leaves one nephew, Albert Gilliland, and a number of nieces. One of his main enjoyments during the past three years was playing with and caring for his three grandchildren.
The Rev. H. L. Olmstead conducted his funeral services which were held at the Church of Christ, Saturday afternoon at two o'clocl. Burial was in the West Star (Worthington) cemetery.

CRESSLIE GILLELAND Dies at 67 Years
Cresslie K. Gilleland, a life-time resident of the Winterset community, died Monday, Nov. 18 while enroute to a Des Moines hospital for treatment. He had been ill at Memorial hospital in Winterset, and was being transferred to Des Moines when his death occurred. He was 67 years of age.
Mr. Gilleland was born in Scott township Feb. 10, 1901, a son of Otis and Ednie Gordon Gilleland. For many years he had lived northwest of Winterset in Douglas township, and was employed as a laborer in construction work.
He was married April 4, 1931, at Atlantic, to Helen E. Nellis, who survives him.
He was a member of the First Christian church of Winterset.
In addition to his wife, he leaves five children, Marvin Gilleland of Des Moines, M. Sgt. Duane Gilleland, U.S. Air Force, now stationed in Germany, Mrs. Ruby Hircock of Peru, and Norman and Larry Gilleland of Des Moines. He also leaves 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday from the Grace Baptist church in Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Melvin R. Mattox. Burial was made in Worthington cemetery.

Helen E. Gilleland, 81, of Winterset, died Sept. 1, 1994 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were Sept. 3, 1994 at Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Epperson. Burial was at the Worthington Cemetery in Madison County.
She was born June 22, 1913 in Earlham to Ward B. and Myrtle (Jones) Nellis. She married Cresslie K. Gilleland in Atlantic on April 4, 1931. She was a lifetime resident of Madison County and a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; one sister; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Surviving relatives include four sons, Marvin Gilleland and wife Virginia Lousie of Prairie City, Duane Gilleland and wife Carol of Winterset, Norman Gilleland and wife Helen of Sunnyside, Wash., and Larry Gilleland and wife Bonnie of Lacona; one daughter, Ruby Hircock of Winterset; two brothers, Ivan Nellis and Delbert Nellis of Des Moines; 17 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lillard-Miller Scholarship Fund, Community Care Activity Fund, or the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
