Obituary of E. E. Gordon

Elbe Elsworth Gordon was born in Lincoln township, near Winterset, Iowa, Aug. 30, 1875, and died at his place of birth May 20, 1910, aged 34 years 8 months and 20 days.

He was married to Rose Holloway Oct. 9, 1901, and four little girls, Icis, Thelma, Elain and Cleta, were born to this union. His parents, Jonathan and Mary Jane Gordon, his brother Elmer and sister, Mrs. Edna Gilliland, with his wife and four children are left to mourn his death.

Seven years ago he became a member of the Glencoe Camp of Highland Nobles and for three years has filled the office of Noble Protector. He was also a member of Madison Lodge I.O.O.F. In 1886 he united with the First Christian Church.

When he was first stricken with pneumonia, two weeks previous to his death, it soon became evident that the disease was baffling medical skill, and he became conscious that his recovery was doubtful. He called for all his friends and especially any with whom he had had difficulty, asking pardon if he had wronged them, assuring them that God had forgiven all his sins. His request was that they might sing the "Sweet Bye and Bye" together and be prepared to meet in that land of unclouded skies.

At his urgent request Rev. L. E. Follansbee, of Des Moines, conducted the funeral services, assisted by the Odd Fellows and Highland Nobles at the home at 1:30 Monday afternoon, and the remains were laid to rest in the Gordon cemetery in Lincoln township.
