Adaline Gowins Slavens, oldest daughter of Stephen and Eliza Gowins, was born in Hendricks County, Indiana, July 10, 1852, and departed this life on January 8, 1932, being 79 years, six months and 28 days old.
On October 27th, 1872, she was married to William Slavens, son of James and Margaret Slavens. To this union were born seven sons and two daughters, the husband, one son, Garner, and two daughters, Myrtle Marrion and Maggie La Foe, having preceded the wife and mother to the better land. The children are Oder of Plainfield, Ind.; Jesse of Crawfordsville, Ind.; Ernest, Tide and Guy of Earlham and Nitus of Dexter; two granddaughters, Thelma Marrion and Velma Marrion Sloan whom she raised and worshipped.
