James D. Burt, 73
James BurtWHITEHALL  James D. Burt of Whitehall died Sunday in St. Patrick Hospital, Missoula.
He was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Lima to James E. Burt and Helen Marie Burlingame. He attended Beaver-head High School and served in the Navy Reserves. He married Dolores "Dolly" White on Oct. 28, 1950, in St. Maries, Idaho. They soon established themselves in the family community of Whitehall, where life was filled with their six children.
He worked as a lineman for Vigilante Electric Cooperative, retiring after 35 years of service. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, Saddle Club, volunteer fireman, Jaycees and Rotary and will be remembered as an accomplished cowboy.
Survivors include his children, Jim and Patti Burt of Butte, Tom and Carol Burt of Florence, Sam and Teri Burt of Trout Creek, Bob and Katie Burt of Bonney Lake, Wash., Deb and Jim Wegeleben of Missoula and Kathy and Bob Parsons of Grays Lake, Ill.; grandchildren, Kristen LaRue, Jim Burt, Andrew Burt, Stacey Olson, Tom Burt, Vince Burt, Tyler Burt, Ben Burt, Lucas Burt, Brienne Burt, Philip Burt, Lindsay Burt, Jon Wegeleben, Joe Wegeleben, Marikate Wegeleben, Adam Parsons, Jerry Parsons; great-grandson, Britton Burt; sisters, Helen Obert, Townsend, Lois Shafer, Dillon; numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Teresa's Parish in Whitehall, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
"On my final ride, I join my bride. Let me pass through the gate in your heart to comfort each that I leave behind."
