1852-1934

From her obituary:
Mrs. Clinton E. Miller, resident of Fontanelle more than fifty years, died at her home Wednesday morning at 4:20 o'clock, terminating an illness of several months of heart trouble and complications.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. B.W. McEldowney, pastor of the Methodist Church. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Claude Sivage, Miss Maude Chapman, and Messrs. Claude Sivage and D.D. McClure with Mrs. F. O. Welsch accompanist.
Those serving as pallbearers were: A.A. Kirlin, Ben Bakerink, Julius Martin, Herb Timmons, Andrew Schroder and O.H. Hemphill. Burial was in the Fontenelle cemetery.
Viola A. Dory Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dory was born near the town of Hardin, in Alamakee County, Iowa, May 14, 1860 and departed this life at 4:20 Wednesday morning November 27, 1935, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 12 days.
Her death was due to heart trouble and complications. She had been in failing health for several years and was in serious condituon for the last five weeks before her death. However, the end was not expected so soon, and came as a severe shock to relatives and friends.
Mrs Miller spent her young girlhood in Allamakee County. She attended school there until eight years of age when she came with her parents, her brothers, and sisters to Adair County, Iowa. They made the trip in a covered wagon, which was a hardship few of us know. Her parents purchased a farm 4 miles southwest of Fontanelle where she completed her education and grew to womanhood.
On November 15, 1875 she married Clinton E. Miller and to this union three children were born: Glen Edwin, October 28, 1876, who died September 15, 1877; Ada Lorena, born January 16, 1878, died November 1, 1925; Clancy Burton born August 13, 1884.
Mrs. Miller united with the Congregational Church about 1892 and has remained a faithful member of that church until the last, although for the past several years she has been prevented from taking an active part in the church because of her health and other sickness in the house.
She is survived by her son Burton, by three grandchildren: Miriam Harper, Etham Winn and Enid Clark; one great grandchild, Winifred Jean Harper; also two brothers and one sister, besides other relatives and friends.
