Given unto my hand the 26th day of July Anno. Dom. 1723---Elizabeth Payne (seal) sealed and delivered in the presence of John Poindexter, Sarah Brechin--Westmoreland Sc.
July the 31, 1723. This power of attorney was duely proved in Open Court by the Oaths of the Witnesses and the dower therein
mentioned relinquished by William Sturman and admitted to record, and was entered thereon the eighth day of August, 1723.
Know all men by these presents that I Elizabeth Payn, the wife of William Payn, late of Westmoreland, now of Hanover County have and by these presents doe authorize and
impower my trusty and Wel beloved friends Mr. William Sturman and Mr. John Aubrey, or either of them, to appear at the County Court of Westmorelane aforesaid adn relinquish
my right of dower and thirds of in and unto One hundred acres of land lying in the said county, sold by my said husband to Mr. Francis Aubrey and for so doing this shall be my
Attorneys or Attorney sufficient Warrant.
Oh, by the way---did you know that our Paynes were Quakers from about 1700 through about the time of the American Revolution? Prior to that, they were with the Church of

Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Poindexter and Sarah Crawford. John Poindexter was her brother and Sarah Brechin was her mother. Thomas had died about 1705-6 when
Sarah remarried to Rev. James Brechin. Elizabeth was married to Ruel Shrewsbury by 1735 when they were admin. and administrx for
William's estate.
Elizabeth Shrewsbury and Ruel Shrewsbury were administrators of the estate of William Payne in Hanover Co VA in late 1735.

Shrewsbury Admr. Of William Payne dec'd. do take or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of the goods, chattels and credits of the sd. Dec'd. and if it shall hereafter
appear that any Last Will and Testement was made by the sd. Dec'd. to have it allowed and if required to render up their Letters of Administration then this obligation to
be void.
